On the quay near a carpentry workshop, a dozen of multiplex panels are placed against the wall. Rows of identical shapes have been cut out with a computer, they are waste material, but offer many possibilities when used in creating a space. Light can project rhythmic shadows when passes through and the space behind the wall becomes more or less visible.
The photo works within this series were created in 2022 and 2023.
As of 2018, the photographs show spaces that are entirely built for the sole purpose of being photographed, they are sets in their own right. The construction process is like a journey to a location never visited before, an intuitive search with an unpredictable destiny. Essential to these spaces is that they are large enough to be physically entered (see SET 2018-2021).
After the photograph is completed, the space will either be altered to a new set, thus creating a series of related views of a site that existed only for a brief moment. The photograph documents the space that once was. When printed on the same scale as the space, the photograph replaces this space with the illusion of the space as if you might be able to enter it. |
