(...) A photograph
of a space, to me, must reflect the experience of really ‘being
there’, in that space. To realize this, I pay much attention to
the relation between light and space, or how light defines a space.
Usually I stay in a room for a long time, to see how the light changes
throughout the day. Using multiple exposures on one photograph, natural
light and artificial light may be combined in one image. Building up
the image in different layers of light, I lose control over the process
of the image making (...) |

in, but as well it defines the space ‘on the other side’.
Jan Theun van Rees has a special attention for the wall, as the boundary
of our visual reality. In his photographs, Van Rees explores the ‘hidden
spaces’ of a building, making the ‘unseen’ visible(...)
