PAINTED ROOM | 2024 - 2025 |
'Painted Room' is a mirrored sequel to 'Perforated Space'. Instead of a darkened studio and artificial light, the construction is in the full daylight of a glass-roofed hall. All the colour in 'Perforated Space' comes from lamps, equipped with colour filters. In the white daylight, colour has to be applied to the carrier. Long strips of textile are painted in various colours. The sunlight can illuminate the colour strips from the front, but especially from behind; the colours then start to shine and where different strips overlap, colour mismatch occurs. By actively applying colour, reflection on painting becomes an (inevitable) recurring theme in these works. All the colour in 'Perforated Space' comes from lamps, equipped with colour filters. This creates the need to build structures at different locations, taking explicit account of the available daylight and its impact on the structure. |
