Na haar studies in filosofie en fotografische theorie realiseerde Lonneke de Groot zich dat zij haar ideeën alleen zichtbaar kon maken door zelf beelden te gaan maken. Zij voltooide een derde studie, aan de Rietveld Academie. De kern van haar werk is de fascinatie voor de waarneming van de toeschouwer, bij het ervaren van de ruimtelijke illusie op het platte vlak. Zij reflecteert ook vanuit een theoretisch oogpunt op haar onderwerp. Dit levert een spannende wisselwerking op tussen concept en beeld. In haar fotografische stillevens verwondert ze zich over hoe we de wereld waarnemen en afbeelden. Ze onderzoekt hoe we kijken naar alledaagse ruimtes en objecten. Ze verwijst daarbij regelmatig naar bestaande afbeeldingen.

She also reflects on her subject from a theoretical point of view. This results in an exciting interaction between concept and image. In her photographic still lifes, she is amazed at how we perceive and depict the world. She examines how we look at everyday spaces and objects. She regularly refers to existing images.
