When the theme of the 'Hidden Space' presents itself, the added value of presenting a photo of a hidden space in a building at a location that corresponds to the photographed space becomes apparent. The photo allows the visitor to look at the familiar space with a new perspective. If the size of the print is equal to the scale of the space where it is presented, the photo becomes part of the architecture. In this way, several photo installations have been created over the years. Each time, the photo is specially made to be presented at a specific location. In the photo taken of such an installation, the distinction between the installed photo and the space of the presentation disappears; the installed photo actually seems to be a passage to another space. This fact opens up many possibilities: the doubling of space in space leads to unexpected constructed views, but also to 'stacked layers of meaning', which offer a new view of the depicted space. Since 2007, experiments have been conducted with this technique and it has become clear that this technique can only be applied in the case of a documentary narrative.<>/p> |
