SITE In all the work, the observation of space is central, whether or not linked to a specific theme. It can be limited to making photographic 'notes' with the telephone. In a few cases, such a note turns out to be an independent image, just as a good sketch is quickly made and accurate. It also happens that such a note has a hook with which it remains in the consciousness. Then there is nothing else to do but go back and look very concentrated until that space, or that corner, reveals its secret, in which that beauty lies. This whole process continues constantly and slowly a collection of images grows, without specific coherence, other than that it is the reflection of moments when a space or place arouses curiosity. From the moment that the space can also be constructed entirely by itself, an interaction arises between the photos that are made on location (SITE) and the spaces that are created in the privacy of the studio (SET). It goes without saying that the space created in the studio is embedded in an amalgam of memories of spaces, possibly visited at some point, seen in magazines, or perhaps in the cinema. However, concrete memories play no role during the construction. When the photo of such a space is exhibited, that changes. While the spaces that are built as a set can never be linked to an existing location, they appear to trigger many memories and associations in the viewer. It is as if, with the construction of the space, the stored memories take shape in the world, as a movement from the inside of the head to the outside. In that context, observing and photographing those spaces can be seen as an opposite movement, from the outside to the inside. |
